I hope you and your pets are enjoying this holiday season. It is a wonderful, busy time spent eating treats, visiting with friends and family and sometimes unexpected chaos. Let’s be mindful of how this season can affect your animal so I want to tell you to JUST SAY NO.
Say NO to the treats often consumed by humans during the holidays. While it may seem like a nice treat for your animal, it is often the cause of painful stomach issues and pancreatitis for the animal. Give them a special homemade treat instead (recipes below). You can also purchase something healthy and special at a healthy pet store.
Say NO to allowing your guests to break your animal of its normal routine. For instance, don’t let your guest sneak your furry friend food, or allow the animal to beg incessantly. You will thank me later when you don’t feel like re-training your animal.
Say NO to the stress of the holidays. While it may seem like it’s unavoidable, when you are carrying stress, your pet carries the stress with you. Make sure to take the time for physical activities like walks, being out in nature and “petting” session. This will be both beneficial to you and your pet.
While we love the holiday season, let’s make sure it’s a time your animals can love as well.
Mini Turkey Burgers
1 pound ground turkey
1 teaspoon chopped parsley
¼ cup shredded cheese (optional)
½ cup chopped veggies (optional)
Preheat oven to 350 ° F
Place all ingredients into a bowl and mix well
Roll mixture into bite-size balls
Bake for 10 minutes or until brown
Cool and serve or seal in airtight container and store in fridge or freezer.
Frozen Pumpkin Treats
Blend a can of pure pumpkin with a cup of yogurt, a teaspoon of honey (optional) and a banana, then spoon into ice trays. Instead of bananas you could add some kind of meat and a few nuts (not macadamia) for example. The options are endless as long as the ingredients are healthy for your pet.
